The aim of this work is to pave the way for more inclusive History classes, where teachers address the needs of all students, with a particular focus on the challenges and opportunities in teaching History to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). After reviewing the scarce specific literature on teaching History to autistic students, an empirical study was conducted with a small sample of teachers to identify the challenges they face when working with these students, as well as some of the pedagogical and didactic strategies and resources they use in their practice.
The results demonstrated the need for greater investment in teacher training, as well as the urgency of utilizing inclusive resources that are still largely unknown to educators. By implementing these and other strategies, it may be possible to overcome some of the difficulties highlighted in this study.
