Childhoods in Transformation: Educational and Social Intervention Practices in African Contexts

2026-06-08

This call for papers aims to bring together and give visibility to scientific research developed within the qualification and professional development of educational and social practitioners across the African continent, seeking to address the complex challenges affecting children in contemporary societies. These challenges emerge in diverse school, family, and community settings and call for intervention approaches that recognize children in their entirety, while taking into account the conditions that promote or constrain their well-being, development, and learning.

The papers submitted to this thematic issue should stem from research processes developed within academic and advanced training contexts, particularly master's and doctoral studies, highlighting the articulation between professional education, intervention practices, and knowledge production. Contributions grounded in the sociocultural realities of African contexts are especially welcome, as are studies committed to the principles of human development, children's rights, inclusion, and social justice.

Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Contemporary challenges in educational and social intervention with children;
  • Public policies, child protection systems, and legal frameworks;
  • Children's well-being, development, and learning;
  • Relationships between education, families, and communities;
  • Inclusive education and the promotion of equity;
  • Professional education and development of educators and social intervention practitioners;
  • Innovative intervention practices in African contexts;
  • Children's rights, citizenship, and participation.

The contributions gathered in this thematic issue seek to highlight the role of educational and social professionals as agents of change, capable of working within multidisciplinary teams and promoting integrated responses that support children's holistic development and the full exercise of citizenship.

Through this call for papers, the journal seeks not only to disseminate research findings but also to contribute to the consolidation of an emerging field of knowledge, strengthening dialogue among contexts, institutions, and professionals, while broadening reflection on educational and social intervention practices in African childhood settings.
