A Liderança Emocional em Agrupamentos do Sotavento
Contributos para o Clima Organizacional e o Bem-Estar Escolar
Keywords:
liderança escolar, inteligência emocional, clima escolarAbstract
This article examines the relationship between school principals’ emotional intelligence (EI) and organizational climate in school clusters located in the eastern Algarve, a region characterized by cultural diversity and socio-educational challenges. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) and semi-structured interviews with school principals. The findings reveal a predominance of transformational leadership styles, closely linked to high levels of EI, particularly in empathy, active listening, and emotional self-regulation. Qualitative analysis confirms that emotionally competent leaders foster collaborative, safe, and motivating school environments, positively impacting teacher motivation and, indirectly, student academic achievement. The study highlights the relevance of EI as a core leadership competency, recommending its integration into principal training and professional development programs.
