This study aimed to describe and analyze the contributions of the service-learning methodology to the education of nursing students, through their involvement in the community-based project +Cuidador. Service-learning integrates community service with explicit pedagogical goals, promoting the connection between theory and practice, skill development, and civic engagement. This is a qualitative, descriptive study involving 36 final-year undergraduate nursing students who participated in the project by replacing informal caregivers in home care settings and contributing to training sessions and public awareness activities. Data were collected through written reflective narratives and analyzed using thematic content analysis. The results revealed significant progress in the development of communication and interpersonal skills, empathy, adaptability to complex situations, and a deeper understanding of the burden experienced by informal caregivers. Students highlighted the importance of direct engagement with the community as a key element for meaningful learning. It is concluded that service-learning is a powerful pedagogical approach that enhances experiential learning, professional development, and the construction of an ethical and humanized professional identity. Its systematic inclusion in higher education curricula in health fields is recommended as an innovative educational strategy with formative and social impact.
